The ideal homesteading bird. The American Bresse chicken is the U.S. imported version of the French Bresse chicken. It is widely referred to as the best tasting chicken in the world, or the "Wagyu of chicken" due to the unique marbling of fat in the meat and diverse diet the birds consume. American Bresse is a patriotic bird as it is red white and blue in color with bright red combs/waddles, a white body, and steel blue legs. We call this the homesteaders perfect bird because it is dual purpose. The hens will lay up to 250 cream colored eggs per year. So in addition to it being a fantastic meat bird, it is also a great laying breed. This bird is hardy and forages very well. They do best with some pasture space to supplement their feed. As a meat bird, it takes approximately 4 months to grow out for butcher. As a layer, they start laying around 16-18 weeks of age.
We strive toward the proposed American Poultry Society Standards of Perfection, with a focus on meat bird qualities. We are 4 generations into developing our line, and so far, they are stunning! We don't just talk the talk, this is our family farm's meat bird of choice, with approximately 50-60 per year going into our personal freezer. At Pheasant Lane Coop we sell American Bresse Chicks and American Bresse Hatching Eggs. Local pickup available in Belgrade Montana and shipping available. We occasionally have juvenile and adult American Bresse Chickens for sale in Belgrade Montana.
Everyone gets adequate free-range/pasture time to include our meat pen.
